Living Everyday With Purpose

livingpurposeEveryday is a precious gift for our life. Are we using it meaningfully and effectively? God created us for a purpose and provisioned us with everything to walk in his purpose. Yet, many of us consider it lightly on how we spend every day. We fill our days with all kinds of activities and fail to be good stewards of time. In this post, i want to motivate you from the book of Ephesians on how we can spend everyday with purpose.

Spend everyday carefully: To make everyday count, we must live carefully and circumspectly. We are living in evil days; there are so many ways we can be distracted and diverted. Unless we are careful, we will be hitting all the dangers on the way and lose focus of our calling. The word of God tells us about his plan, purpose and instructions for our life. Sadly, many of us who call ourselves christian, live far too casual and careless to obey God’s word. We run behind material things ignoring the things of God. We live everyday as if we are in control of everything. We are not going to gain anything by living a superficial christian life. Do we realize our days are numbered?

Spend everyday wisely: If you can go back in time and redo things, would you do any different? Most probably we may think to spend it more wisely. Unless we have knowledge and understanding to apply in our life, we cannot be effective in spending our days. Many of us assume we have enough knowledge to take care on our own; but our knowledge and wisdom are limited and many times faulty. God is the root of wisdom, knowledge and understanding. When we humble our self and ask God, he will give us generously.

Many times, we are focused on worldly things and often miss all the wonderful opportunities God gives and we overlook them for selfish goals. If we have the wisdom from God, we will be able to see each and every opportunity and it effectively for God’s glory. His wisdom will help us respond to situations which is not possible on our own.

Spend everyday understanding and obeying God’s will: If we need to make use of every opportunity for God’s glory, we need to know God’s will. Without knowing the will of God, our response to everyday situations will not be effective. We can do a lot of religious things but yet not follow God’s will. God has revealed his will in his word. We need to be obedient in following his will which fulfills our life. How many of us are spending time to understand God’s will from his word? Are we spending time in prayer asking holy spirit to reveal God’s will?

Spend everyday filled with the Holy Spirit: We can spend every day carefully, wisely, understanding & obeying God’s will; if we are being filled with the holy spirit. When we are filled with his spirit, he takes control of all aspects of our life. His spirit influences our actions; enables to overcome works of flesh and equips to perform good works of God. He strengthens our inner being to experience the fullness of God. A spirit filled person will be filled with joy, love, thankfulness, humbleness and praise for God. Are we living a spirit filled life?

We are created for God’s glory and we cannot fulfill our purpose if we keep living ignorantly. As days and years move on, we can feel the emptiness of living a superficial Christian life. Being a follower of Christ changes everything for the best. Where do you stand in your everyday walk? Are you spending everyday with purpose to glorify God? Are you walking carefully, wisely, understanding & obeying God’s will and being filled with the holy spirit?

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.- Ephesians 5:15-20
