Surrounded by waves of problems?

wavesofproblemsTime and again, we find ourselves tossing and turning like a wave in strong winds to find peace and understanding in middle of the problems in our life. Lot of questions come to us. Why me? Why again? What am i going to do? Do i have hope? We become unstable in such situations when trying on our own. James tells us how can we handle such situations in our life.

“2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” -James 1:2-4

We get better perspective about the problems when we understand their purpose in our life. Trials are the tools to make us perfect in Christ. By the testing of our faith, it produces patience. We have seen this in our life, the impact of increasing patience. Patience makes us perfect and lacking nothing to grow in the fullness of Christ. Trails removes the impurities in our life. It makes us pure as smelting removes the impurities from gold to make it more pure. We don’t realize the purpose when the pain distracts us to know the significance trails are performing in our life. We do realize this after the fact. The outcome sounds wonderful but how do we handle the problems in our life? How can we be at peace in middle of such storms?

“5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” – James 1:5-8

When we try to grasp with our understanding & reasoning, we go to a confused state. It seems impossible. The key is to get the wisdom of God. In faith, we need to ask for wisdom of God. It may be impossible for our minds to understand but nothing is impossible for God. When we ask according to the will of God, he gives us what we ask. Jesus said,

“Ask and it will be given to you” – Mathew 7:7

God gives us abundant wisdom without any limit. There are no strings attached. Think about how King David reacted in times of his troubles, how Job handled his trials? we wonder in our human mind, these people were extraordinary and it is impossible for us to handle like them. It was the wisdom of God gave them the understanding during their troubles which made David to be at peace in middle of life threatening troubles.

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety”.-Psalm 4:8

Overcoming can be God delivering us from the situation or it can also be God be with us guiding us through the problems for his glory and purpose. Many of us miss the condition mentioned in James 1:6 and wonder why we did not get the wisdom during the problems. Ever wonder why we become so unstable during trails?  We ask in doubt with partial faith and the verse says we become unstable like a wave tossed by wind. We seek God and also other alternatives from our knowledge. We don’t trust God’s providence working in our life and get lost with our own reasoning. How true is this in our life!

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

Jesus told us that we are not out of all problems the life is going through at us. But the hope is we have Jesus who overcame the world. No one is free from problems. When we are in middle of problems, let us remind ourselves of the purpose and ask Christ for the wisdom to navigate to a victorious life and God will fill us with wisdom and peace that surpasses all human understanding!

  1. Yes very True Peter we need to ask for God’s wisdom to know His Truth, it is the principle thing, also for understanding His will in resolving the problems we encounter in life. He tells us that He will provide our needs as He does the birds, so we don’t have to worry even about them.

As you shared Peter, Jesus said we will have Trouble He also said; when we are heavy burdened to bring our worries to Him, He does not condemn us, He wants to help us.

Lamentations 3: 33 For God doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

God also does not afflict us to teach us as confirmed in the Scriptures but He does work everything for our good even the trials we go through, when we stand up against Temptation it makes us stronger because we than have assurance we can be victorious in other Temptations and so we persevere without fear. I was delivered from an all consuming addiction to gambling which almost lead to suicide, it was destroying everything of worth in my life but I was unable to control it and so I felt worthless and unloved especially by God. Four years after I was delivered I was tempted again to gamble, I asked Jesus to help me resist and He did, I never gambled or have I ever wanted to again and this has been the same when Tempted in other things.

1Peter 1:6-7 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

James 1:12-14 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that Love Him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
